Sign Language Games
Question: Anyone know and good ASL (sign language) games for kids, preferably flash games? my room mate has a deaf son who is 3, I'd like to show him some games he can play on the computer
Answer: if you would like to show him some games and you have to use sign language to explain him how work to play game on computer, i am sure he is smart kid, so use ur sign language if you know how to use ASL.
btw i am deaf and my family is deaf =)
Question: What are some good American Sign Language vocab learning games? I am doing a presentation with some vocab words in my college asl class and have to have an activity that ensures the everyone in the class will be signing the vocab words. Any good ideas?
Answer: When I took beginning ASL class, signing a song was an awesome way to learn. We sang(signed) "Morning Has Broken" by Cat Stevens. After 20 years I still remember much of it!
Question: does anyone know of fun sign language games i can play with my class???
Answer: that one game that i don't know the name to but its like you try to act out something and the other person try to act it out. its pretty fun and stuff.
Question: Anyone know of any free-online- Christian games for geography, science, history, sign language, etc?? We homeschool and would love help on locating some fun & free learning games (with a Christian worldview) for elementary kids (grades 1-3).
Answer: for sign language, there is aslpro.com and asl.ms. There is also a really good book called "the Joy of Signing" There are a lot of religeous signs in the back of the book. The internet is much better though because you can see the movement.
Question: How do you say good game in sign language?
Answer: Gesturing works well in sign language, so a smile and a thumbs up would work. However, if you want to use correct ASL:
Good: Beginning with the fingertips of the right open hand near the mouth, palm facing in and fingertips pointing up, bring the hand downward, ending with the back of the right hand across the left open hand with both palms facing up. (this can also be done without the left hand, just as a casual gesture to say "good"
Game:Bring the knuckles of both fist (thumbs up) palms facing in, against eachother with a double movement in front of the chest.
You can google sign language and the words you want to you to get a picture of these movements.
Question: Has anyone ever taken a baby sign language class? I'm considering signing up for a baby sign language class (they do games for baby, instructions and ideas for parentcs etc)...for the sign language of course and then also to have a chance to meet other moms. It's expensive, so I'm wondering if anyone has taken a class like this and what you thought?
Answer: No, I have a book that my mom gave to me a while ago, that I never really used. I heard that sign language was difficult to teach a baby so I guess I just gave up without even trying :( I am much more of a hands-on person, so I think I would benefit from taking a class. BUT, if it's expensive, maybe just buy a DVD for yourself and then you can teach Ian yourself :)

Question: why games are in another language? I sign into games and go to freecell card game. the buttons come up in another language instead of english how do I get them to be in english so I can read them?
Answer: If you are at a French site, English is the foreign language.
Question: My four year old daughter is really interested in learning sign language/ASL. Any good suggestions? Any books, cards, games or dvd's out there that are not so expensive? Thank you!
Answer: We do signs with my son, and have most of his life, we've done a lot of stuff based based on the free websites out there (another poster listed our favorites already) but I noticed a HUGE difference in his signing when we started watching the Signing Time videos.
http://www.signingtime.com/
We have checked some out at our library. He also has a speech delay, and his therapist even uses these and has loaned us some. He asks to watch the videos instead of other movies, and some of them (like Leah's Farm) are so catchy I even enjoy them. I especially like them because the girl, Leah, is truly deaf, the adult on the video is her mom, and they truly know and use ASL, so the signs are prefect every time. They show possible variations.
You have to be aware of what's out there in the world of signs too. One video we checked out at the library, "I Want to Learn Sign Language," was awful!!! It thought several signs as fact when they are slang, one version of many different signs for the same thing, or even essentially made up, and it was SOOOOOOOO boring. Also beware of anything marketed as "baby signs" most of them are not true ASL but modified signs for baby dexterity. Many Baby Einstein signs are not correct either.
I highly recommend the Signing Time videos though. While my son did 50+ signs before the videos he know does so many I have to scan my brain to even remember what it is he's signing. I think he might know more then me! To buy the videos are are $22 a piece, but you may be able to find them at a *Mart store cheaper, I haven't purchased any yet.
