Fitting Hearing Aids
Question: How do I comfortably wear eyeglasses and BTE hearing aids? I wear BTE hearing aids and eyeglasses. I think each of them are designed to fit on top of the ear, without any other device on the ear. As it is, my ears get tired from having both devices on them. And if I were to wear on-the-ear headphones, my ears would be even more tired. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do you deal with it?
Answer: I do not know how to answer this from personal experience, but my cousin wears hearing aids and eyeglasses. She chose a light wire frame when she wears her eyeglasses, but uses contact lenses most of the time. I am not sure if contacts are an option for you, but you may want to consider it. If you can wear hearing aids that are not behind the ear, that may be another option for you as well.
Good Luck!
Question: can In-the-Canal hearing aids fit to tight?
Answer: Any hearing aid can fit too tight, too loose, or otherwise badly.
Real hearing aids (with a couple of unusual exceptions) are made by taking an impression of the ear. This special rubber like material creates a copy of the shape of the ear, and hearing aids are built from this impression.
If the impression is not taken properly or becomes warped or damaged, or the factory does not do a good job processing the impression, the hearing aid may not fit well.
The best thing to do in this case is to take it back to your hearing professional and ask them to change the shape. If they cannot modify the aid themselves they should take a new impression and try again.
Do not blame your hearing professional as it is not always their fault if this happens. For example if the impression is left in a very hot place for a long time during transit it could be warped before the factory ever get to see it.
So just go back and tell them about the fit and the problem should be easily rectified.
Keep in mind also that sometimes aids seem a little tight at first, it's like getting a new pair of shoes. But if you don't get used to it soon, go back.
Question: Can deaf and hard of hearing people who use hearing aids be models? I am hard of hearing and I have always wanted to be a model should I go for it??... the thing is that I do wear hearing aids but in good fit shape so could a model agency turn me down because I am deaf or wear hearing aids just wondering what is your opinion?
Answer: don't you know who marlee matlin is? she was miss america several years ago and an award winning actress. absolutely, yes! you can be a model. i think it is extreme discrimination that an agency turned you down for this reason. if you are really certain that your rejection was due to your hearing aids, you should call the better business bureau and complain. keep it the goal. good luck.
Question: Do you know anyone who wears hearing aids? An elderly gentleman. . .
Had serious hearing problems for a number of years. He went to the
doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a
set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%
The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the
doctor said, 'Your hearing is perfect.
Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again.'
The gentleman replied, 'Oh, I haven't told my family yet.
I just sit around and listen to the conversations. I've changed my
will three times!'
Answer: Right on old man ! loved that one Kitty
Question: Can I still become a lifeguard even with hearing aids? I have perfect hearing WITH them in, and I'd only take them out when I get in water. I'm 19 and physically fit so what do you think? Nothing negative please I can't help the hearing problem.
Answer: I'm not sure. I would go to class and on the first day, before you make a deposit for the class, ask about it. Depending on where you go they may or may not let you. I have horrible vision but they really don't care.
Question: Hearing aids some advice please....? I have a high frequency hearing loss in both ears that i have had since a child. When i was younger they tried fitting me with a hearing aid but i didn't wear them as they whistled and caused me much annoyance, and it was later found that my hearing problem is as a result of the hairs in my cochlear being bent so the high frequency sounds are not being 'wafted' by the hairs to my brain.
Although my high frequency loss is quite significant, i can manage fairly well without aids, but lately my audiologist informed me that a new type of hearing aid has been made available that might be able to cope with my loss without making the sounds i hear normally seem overly loud. (it can be made specifically to pick up the sounds i miss) so i have gone for that.
BUT the thing is i feel a bit nervous about wearing them again. One part of me is saying who gives a damn who knows, if anyone has a problem with me wearing a hearing aid its their problem not mine, and as i'm training to be a teacher i feel i need to be able to hear properly. But i can't help but feel a slight stigma attached to them as i was bullied at school for wearing them and singled out and its gonna take a long while to get used to them. Am i normal to feel this way? xx
It'll be a moulded one with an aid that fits behind the ear, but i have long hair and i had it made specially in brown so it blends in with my hair but i have to tie my hair up for work and i'm worried people will see it and comment
Also, i'm 20 and get the aids free on the nhs so i dont have to worry about paying
Answer: Just do it, will you.
They are hearing aids, and you should NEVER EVER feel ashamed of wearing them.
Our 3yo wears hearing aids, and he is beautiful. You share in the super hero powers that William does. And you need to hold your head up high, and be proud of who you are.
Because someone out there, a little Child's parent is encouraging them to wear their hearing aids.
Question: Do hearing aids count as fashion accessories? My question pertains to the fact that you can get hearing aids in a multitude of colors; not to mention the fact that you can get the molds (the part of the aid that fits into the outer ear and into the ear canal) done in swirls of colors, or just about any outrageous color you can think of! I have a pair that has blue and white swirls; yet people don't notice them all that much. I used to hide them when I was younger, wanting to fit in with the "normal" crowd, but now I don't care if people notice. I'm hearing impaired, but I've overcome it by a wide margin. So do they count as accessories, like earrings and necklaces and such?
Answer: If you feel it is a fashion accessory then it is. I think anything can be a fashion accessory. I remember when having hordes of rubber bands on your wrist was in fashion. Idiots wearing their pants around their ankles is still in fashion.
Really fashion is what you make of it. You take normal, every day things and you spin them to your liking. If you have the swirls on your hearing aid, try wearing a tie-dyed shirt to accentuate them.
Question: A question for men~would hearing aids turn u off? I am 40 and was born hearing impaired, 95 % hearing loss~I wear hearing aids behind each ear. I have never let them show because I feel I will only make it so a guy either runs off, think I am high maintance or a disabled stupid chic. I do not consider my self disabled if fact I don't know even if I fit into that catagory. I am very attractive, fun, smart, and can speak english and sign
Answer: A hearing aid would not detract from an otherwise nice woman. If I liked her, a hearing aid would not change that.
