Question: Where can I buy Sentry II wax guards for Beltone hearing aids?
Answer: Use the locater to find your nearest Beltone dealer. See link.
Question: Have you had bad or good luck with Beltone (hearing aids)?
Answer: My husband wears hearing aids made by Beltone. He has had good luck with the product and the warranty/repair contract that comes with the purchase was also good. He was also given a certain amount of hearing aid batteries each month for about a year. That is helpful as the batteries cost can add up.
The total cost of the two hearing aids without an extended warranty was about $6000.00. They did have less expensive versions but my husband has extensive hearing loss and that option would not have really worked for him. He has had them for about 4 years now and has had to have only one repair done (which was covered by the warranty).
The couple who managed the shop were very knowledgeable/ helpful explaining everything. One of them had severe hearing loss and also wore h/aids. The testing and fitting were done there in the shop. I believe it took about 2 weeks before the hearing aids were ready.
It was a joyous day when we went and picked them up. Seeing his blue eyes light up at being able to hear the birds singing again...now that is priceless. I wouldn't have missed that for anything.
So, that is our experience with Belton
Question: What size of batteries should I buy for Beltone Optima fullshell hearing aids?
Answer: Full shell hearing aids almost always use a 13 battery. Sometimes if the ear is small they have a 312 battery. It would be incredibly rare for any other size to be used.
Different battery manufacturers sometimes have different letters before or after the battery size like 13AZ or 312A. The letters don't matter it is the numbers that count. 13 will always have an orange sticker on the back of them when new and 312 will always have a brown sticker.
If you take a look at the battery in the packet before purchase it should be really obvious which size is needed. Both sizes are the same diameter, however the 13 is twice the height of the 312. You simply cannot put the wrong size into the hearing aid door. It will either be way too big or clearly too small.
If you have an old battery you should be able to show it to anyone at any hearing aid center and they will be able to identify it.
Question: How do you know if your hearing aid is not set right? My grandma just go a hearing aid about 2 weeks ago. She has a Beltone hearing aid. She wears two. But when I talk to her she doesn't even hear me if I don't say something loud first. Also she thinks the backgroung noise is too loud, but she's not sure. How loud should it be?
I know this is a hard question to answer, but I'd appreciate your input.
Answer: Your Grandma's hearing aids have not been set appropriately for her. I would recommend she return to the Beltone office she purchased them through and have them re-program the hearing aids. It is ideal to have a family member go to the appointment with her to ensure proper care is given and to talk with her while she is getting them tuned. This will help the family know at the time of the office visit that they have been set correctly and she is hearing properly.
Being fit with new hearing aids is a process and does take a few visits to ensure the hearing aids have been adjusted properly. There is also an adjustment period for the hearing aid wearer to get used to hearing with their new hearing aids.
Also testing called Real-ear verification is an absolute must in the hearing aid fitting process. This allows the audiologist or hearing aid specialist to visibly see how well the hearing aids are amplifying once fit on the patient. If the Beltone office she went to does not have real-ear verification, then that is very disappointing and I would recommend going to another office.
